Uploading this video to the Internet was the most stressful thing ever. It’s so small so it’s probably not even worth it.

Q&A Time: Volume 1
My lovely family friend, Evonne Frye has asked me some good questions, and I thought I’d share them with you all! Q: What exactly is your major? A: Geology, and I have a minor in Classics (although with how I did in Ancient Greek, I might just drop that altogether). Semester at Sea admits any major and actually the most popular major on the boat is Business.
Q: How did you get into this...
Day 5: Rolling With the Waves
January 22, 2010 I’d like to thank the Academy… For all of you reading this, thanks for being patient. I know hearing about ship life is probably really exciting and unfortunately for me, it’s still school, and the first week of school is usually the craziest. I’d also like to thank Liz Boyle, for which you reading my blog on this site would not be possible. In order to save the precious...

Day 2: First Day at Sea!
Detox just to retox
So, this is it. I am somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Mexico. I’ve never seen water so blue in my life. Once we get to places like Hawaii, though, I’ll have to reuse that statement. As most of you know, I will not really be able to be reached very easily. Yes, there is my email account, cmredfield@semesteratsea.net, but as of right now, I’ve only been able to...

– Is it weird that I’m quoting myself?
Every once in a while I go back and delete all of the unnecessary tweets that are just irrelevant now. Going back I found this one from November 25th, and I think it rings just as true now as it ever did. (And I was definitely going through some shit back...

Really? You too?
Verizon Customer Service: Hello, thank you for calling Verizon. My name is Constance. Can you please verify your name?
Me: Uhh, haha, Constance Redfield.
She probably thought I was lying out of my ass.
When it all comes down to it,
I am
a wanderer
a former exchange student
someone who can’t be tied down.
I say this with absolute respect and admiration for the people who have come and gone into my life. I love people. I love meeting new people and I still love the people that have influenced my life, whether I knew them for a week or 10 years. Even if I really dislike them to this day, I still appreciate that I know...

Heartbroken, but in a good way
Liz: They say home is where the heart is.
Liz: Cheesy, I know.
Me: Well, that's great.
Me: My heart's in pieces around the country.

Hear ye hear ye!
Alright, so everyone knows I’m going off the grid in less than 4 days (wow, that’s crazy soon), but I won’t be completely out of reach. What I’m told is that our free email account is usually in the format of first and middle initials and then last name, so my email SHOULD BE:
cmredfield@semesteratsea.net
I have no way of checking this as of yet, but hopefully this is it....

Packing. For life. Sucks. I guess I should start...
This is one of those obstacles I’ve never been able to overcome, in all of the times I’ve packed for multiple months. From 10 months in Romania to semesters in Colorado, airport baggage check has slowly been killing my soul.
But am I going to start packing yet? Nooooo. Packing always happens for me in one. long. night. right before I leave.

God, please help me pack...

Imagine if your school floated...
Well, this upcoming semester, mine really is.
Now, everyone always talks about where we’re going, but what about the other half of the voyage? What about the school part? What about the BOAT? Normally, SAS students are enrolled in 12 credits (depending on your home campus, some require 15), and these classes usually coincide with different ports-of-call and well, the ocean. This semester...

– Dead Like Me, Season 1, Episode 8 - A Cook
Yet another quote I felt the need to share from this great TV show. Watching these episodes the second time around is even better. I feel like I’m catching up with old friends. Ever since I went and lived in Romania, I’ve never wanted to settle...

Dreams come true in Blue Hawai'i
Today I finally noticed which FDPs (Faculty Directed Practica) I will be participating in while I’m in Hawai’i. I’m really excited for both of them because out of all the FDPs in all of the ports, I feel like these are the some of the closest associated with my career in geology.

– Dead Like Me, Season 1, Episode 5 “Reaping Havoc”
This is from a short-lived show that has been off the air for quite some time now, but it really was a gem, and luckily through the aid of Netflix, I was able to discover and view both seasons and the following movie. It’s a...

"Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride..."
Just thought of the only goal I want for 2010: make some progress on the book I’ve been working on for the past 8 years.
Yeah…8 years. Procrastination runs deep. ;)
